Ladies and gentlemen, I bring you Belize. I have more pictures, but these were my top 38 (the others got voted off along with Chekezie and Ramiele by a particularly ill-mannered and rowdy crowd who called my toll-free 866 -- not 800, please dial carefully -- number).

I hope you enjoy. The pictures are all annotated, but if you have any questions, ask away.

WOW for the pictures, or for the ones who got voted off Idol-style?

P.S. hi, you!

Wow for the pictures. I have a very close friend who spent a month in Belize and he has always raved about it. I am sure that you had a great time in such a beautiful place!

Oh, and Hi - I know. I am just not around. PhD school ain't easy. I sit down at my computer and say "don't open LJ until you have worked two good, productive hours." Then after two good, productive hours I am drained mentally and physically and usually just go to bed. I need to find the happy median because I cannot do this for FIVE years!!!

But the fun side is I am currently writing a really interesting paper (good that i find the topic interesting) on the adaptation of fanzines (self-published fan magazines) to the internet and how the sense of community has changed with the online presence.

Sorry - probably more then you wanted to know. That is what us insane people do - think that the rest of the world really cares about what we do. Vanity - a very weird trait. Must work on it.

:o)

That does sound interesting! Not even in an insane sort of way.

By the way, how'd the HP book ever do?

I have to confess that we all took turns taking pictures. Some are mine, a few are Hannah's, and most belong to that guy they let on the bus along with us. But... I want my very own digital camera now. I hadn't used that one before, and it's fun.

I must say a lot of the scenery reminds me of the Philippines, but I don't think the roadside signs are as cool and I don't think I've ever been as close to the rainforest. Thank you for sharing pictures!

(And now I think I have to upload my Palawan pictures so I have island photos to show you, too!)

YAY! More pictures!

Mitch kept calling Belize an island. It isn't -- it's firmly attached to Guatemala and the Central American land mass -- but it feels like one because of the palm trees.

Whoops, I remember looking for Belize in a map before and totally forgot it wasn't an island :-p

Anyway, OK, I will have tropical pictures for you, too!

PS I can join that White Legs Club, too, right? Because I *so* qualify.

LOL - palm trees = island?

It's all a question of frame of reference. When every tropical place you've ever vacationed with palm trees and blue ocean and reggae music drifting in from the background has been an island, that's how you tend to think of them. He really did keep saying "island" because to him it felt like an island vacation.

Those pictures are awesome! You look like you had a great time. Hannah on the bus looks all, "Why yes, I am a sophisticated world traveler!" And the baby monkey is adorable - he needs a LOL caption, something like, "I sense a disturbance in the Force."

Heh, poor little baby monkey. He just wanted some loving.

I hope looking at them didn't strain your eyes! Yes, I have been following your saga! I'm glad it all went well.

It was a blast! I'm ready to go back. Except for the whole getting there part, that is. Where's teleportation (or Apparition) when we need it?

Great pictures! So pretty. That airport is something else.

Hannah IS getting tall. And your legs are no whiter than mine, sadly.

It's good to know I'm not the whitest white chick that ever whited on the planet! (My name actually translates to white lady so maybe it's destiny).

Those little airports are kind of adorable. The plane had to back up, then taxi down the runway, then turn around at the little cul-de-sac at the end, then gun it to gather up enough speed to take off. Little 10- or 12-seater Cessnas.

Very nifty pictures! I don't know what I was expecting from Belize, but... that wasn't it. ^_^ [/weird] I also forgot about the British influence, although I'm sure it isn't anywhere nearly as strong as it used to be.

Thank you for sharing those!

It looks like such a beautiful place! And I chuckled to see that I'm not the only one who has to take pictures of the local domestic feline life. Yes, every resort has at least one resident kitty.

From: [identity profile] in-the-blue.livejournal.com
...and the kitties all look the same! I was in Jamaica years ago and there was a black-and-white kitty. I'd bring back a bowl of milk for it from the dining area every evening and she would purr so contentedly. They're not particularly friendly, resort cats, but they're long-suffering and put up with almost anything because food is the reward.

This one liked cheese and fish. No surprises there!

Mmm, I read Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides. It was the perfect contrast to the tropics.

I liked it, by the way. With just a few little gripes, but no book is perfect. :D

I've heard of that-one. butthe plot sounds weird to met the plot sounds *weird* to me. it is somewhere in my house though so...

From: [identity profile] in-the-blue.livejournal.com
Oh, the plot is really pretty basic. And it's incredibly thoughtful and well-written. It gets a little bogged down in a few places, but overall, I thought it was very well-crafted and pretty intriguing.

It came to me highly recommended and I got pretty engrossed by it. It wasn't one of those books that I drudged through and thought later was a waste of time. In fact, I'm glad I read it. Pieces of it have stayed with me.

It looks like a beautiful (and very green!) place for a vacation. It sure seems like everyone was having fun. :)

I love the rainforest path picture. It makes me want to go see what's down there.

(Spiders.)

That particular path led away from the river and up to an organic farm and orange orchard. But it can lead wherever you want it to lead in your mind.
