Swag, swag, swag: my birthday is complete.

This is hands down the prettiest cel I have. It went up for sale this past Saturday morning and luckily, I was the first to ask about it, and I still had almost enough birthday money and so... yeah. For any cel purists, this one has the original sketch too, and it's unstuck, and it has the background, and I know this scene and love this scene and sure, some of this is my inner Spike at work but some of it is just me the Cowboy Bebop fan doing a little celebrating. This one goes on the wall, specially framed.

When I went to the post office this morning, I had not only Julia waiting for me but a slip saying I had some registered mail waiting for me, sent from Singapore. I said hey, that's my SPIKE cel from Ballad of Fallen Angels! I knew it was coming in from Singapore, and it was the only other thing I was waiting for, and I thought the shipping was awfully fast since it wasn't sent out until Monday. Imagine my surprise when my post office boyfriend (ha ha) handed me a rather small and heavy package that wasn't big enough to hold a cel. But there was my name right on it, and a sticker on it with a PO Box in Singapore for return mail, and my heart sank when I opened it up and there was no cel but a few books. My thoughts went something like this:

Oh, man, the seller screwed up and sent me someone else's order instead! I wonder what happened to my Spike cel? This is crazy! How could he get the orders so mixed up? What am I going to do? So as soon as I got home I fired up the computer and started heading over to ebay to set things right with the seller when I noticed a little postcard in the package; I'd missed it the first time. Lo and behold, it was from my very own [livejournal.com profile] h311ybean!!! So now imagine my thoughts: how did a card from Ara Kane get stuck in a botched ebay order?

And then I laughed and laughed as I realized what an ass I was. She sent me a pair of cookbooks and a book of fiction by Filipina author Gilda Cordero-Fernando all of which I'm really excited to read! So...

...thank you for the birthday present, [livejournal.com profile] h311ybean ♥♥♥!!! Hahahaha, I'm still laughing at myself.

P.S. I'm going to get my copy of Y: The Last Man #59 this afternoon. And in less interesting news, I'm all caught up on the first season of Heroes, for what that's worth.

Edited to add: comments now contain spoilers for YTLM #59.

I thought it was a pretty fun ride. It's a little uneven, but my sister's been trying to get me to watch it for a long while now, and I'm glad it wasn't... well... I dunno. Stupid, except in parts. Some of it seemed predictable, but that could be because we watched it all at once instead of having to wait week-to-week for it. It bogged down in spots, but the whole race to see which good guys and bad guys were actual good guys and bad guys was fun to try to outguess.

I don't know any spoilers for Season 2 and I'm not sure when I'll be able to watch it. I guess I could start recording it and catch up with it when I can. I know nbc.com has some episodes, but not from the beginning, so that doesn't help me very much. I don't want to start in the middle.

Congratulations on scoring that cel in your post - it's gorgeous! Also, you are very welcome :) Yeehaw, it arrived! I'm sorry the package wasn't compatible with your ebay mode, though, LOL.

I must say I'm confused about that PO Box in Singapore sticker. The sticker I attached to the envelope was an address label. (Yay, I have address labels now!) I guess something happened to it in transit...or maybe the polka dots on the design made the text hard to read, oops. Must choose a different design after I use up the 30+ labels I have left :-p

It got slapped on top of your sticker! I can see polka dots beneath it. I'll email you the address on the sticker if you want to see if you can make the least sense of it.

And heh, screw the ebay mode compatibility: I'm delighted. Thanks again.

Swag is a great word. (Swagswagswagswag :D) And that cel is gorgeous! I love the way her hair follows the folds in her clothes.

It's even prettier in person. I kind of can't stop looking at it.

Are you feeling better? I sure hope so.

Hiro's a great character.

But lots of canons have lots of great characters, after all.

Did you read #59 yet??

Y yes I have. You?

I actually read it three times. On BKV's forum everyone is talking about issue 60 being an epilogue... you wouldn't know anything about that, would you? Because this didn't feel much like a finish to me, although BKV hosted the topic for this issue on his forum as YTLM#59, an end... of sorts.

I read it twice. I however, know nothing about #60 besides the cover. There are still a lot of loose ends to wrap up.

I don't know that I'd call it an epilogue, but this one was the end of the titled storyline. Maybe that's where they're getting it.

So what'd you think? My first impression was almost a yeah, yeah, yeah kind of thing, but I read it really fast in my car outside the comic book store. Then as soon as I got home I read it more carefully. Does it all boil down to the one thing: that Alter had such bad self-esteem that she only wanted to be killed by a man? That explains her whole pursuit of Yorick all those years? I mean, I knew she was a damn nutjob, but honestly, that makes Toyota look almost saintly in comparison.

I did love how fierce Beth 2 got. My inner Spike was so proud of her (it's funny how roleplay taints our outlook on life sometimes, isn't it?) and was ready to kick fucking ass if that woman made it out of the room with Beth Junior. I'm actually surprised Hero didn't get killed in this issue. Sometimes it pays to be the voice of doom and go around anticipating the worst, because then you can't be disappointed, right? And look, for once Hero got to make a pop culture reference with her Han Solo comment. I guess she wasn't so sequestered at Sarah Lawrence as it used to seem back in the days when she didn't get Yorick's Wizard of Oz references.

One thing I absolutely love is that none of the Parisian women give a shit about a man in their midst. Yorick can go walking around all he wants and no one really cares. Beth 1 had posters up for him and either it's been so long since there was a guy that they all thought she was crazy or ze French, zey are harboring more secrets or something, but I find that puzzlingly satisfying.

Yorick's sure grown up a lot, though. Poor guy. I can't wait for the final issue, and at the same time the very thought of it fills me with trepidation because the cover art is... chilling to say the least. But then again, so was the cover art for this issue and it had nothing to do with the storyline... at least not so far.

Oh damn! That's so pretty! What a great little celebratory thing to have.

(I'm also avoiding comments so as not to be too spoiled. I want to pick up the issue when I get back to Philly.)
