First things first, huge hugs for
sff_corgi, who's missing a member of the pack. I hope she comes home RIGHT AWAY now. If you're in Southern Florida, be on the lookout for her missing Gemma.
In other happier pet news, I brought Tabasco home from the surgeon's yesterday. Now, explain to a 15-month-old cat (or any cat, really) that it's in their best interest to be in a tiny space and not move around. At first, we set up Hannah's old playpen in the living room and she did not like that at all. She spent the whole time trying to climb up the mesh sides and through the mesh cover over the top: not good for her little reconstructed femur at all. So I went back to Plan A, which was put her in Hannah's ex-nursery with the door closed.
Yeah.
That works better... a little. Except she's escaped three times so far. You'd think her hip wasn't bothering her at all, except it is and we really need to keep her as quiet as possible and short of crating her, the little nursery room is the best. I did have her down here with me in the living room along with Klondike cat, her mom, in the air conditioning for about a half hour but she was so delighted that she kept moving around, so... back upstairs with her. She didn't even put up a fuss; it must be the fentanyl patch kicking in.
Kitties on narcotics: who'd have thought?
Oh, man. Paige... well, you know what I'm going to say, because we're already talking about it. But sistah, you keep me on my toes and I love it. I feel like this is some of the best writing I've ever done. Period. Thank you so much for being my partner-in-crime. Tonight, RP; tomorrow? THE WORLD.
Lest you think I'm ignoring my
milliways_bar contingent, ha! Think again!
bookelfe and I have been having a little too much fun weaving the two pieces of Howl's & Sophie's canon together. The fandom wisdom says there's probably about 2 years between Howl's Moving Castle and Castle in the Air; I think it's a little less. However, that doesn't matter: we've been slowly building a bridge between the two novels and man, is that fun. I love it when things come together so brilliantly.
Howl = not so easy to play! He's a lot more complex than he seems. Then again, I don't play simplistic characters. Where's the fun in that?

No, you don't. :-) Complex characters are an ultimately rewarding challenge. Hell, I write the freakin' Punisher, and many people mistake Frank Castle to be a simple man, not knowing his canon. They are oh-so-very-wrong.
I enjoyed that last OOM.

Date: 2007-08-03 02:06 am (UTC)I'm pretty much of the opinion that there really are no simplistic characters... only surfacey roleplayers. I mean... not that I want to get into character analysis here, but let's be obvious about it and pick a pure bad guy in Vicious. On the surface, he's simply cruel and arrogant and all about power. Fine. All well and good. But what I'm interested in is what got him to that point? There has to be a story, and once I figure out the story and know why he's the way he is, suddenly that surface arrogance and cruelty and power-lust becomes a whole lot more interesting: there's so much bubbling beneath that surface.
Heh, I could go on and on, but I won't. I'd bore you to tears.

To the point of needing my write-practically-canon-scenes-with-Gwynne fix daily.
As soon as we finish the Outpost aftermath, though, it's probably past time for some infancy brigade at Milliways.
Let's watch some canon this weekend.
Okay, I admit. Tabasco slipped me a hundred to distract you while she breaks out again. And empties the safe.

Date: 2007-08-03 02:43 am (UTC)I think we're both addicted, honestly. I get all I need my Spike today and if it's been more than a day or two I start getting all mumbly-bandaged-Spike muttering beneath his breath about things not being his problem. Clearly, I need my Paige.
Canon this weekend? You bet.
Oh.
I think I had a dream about Steve the other night, too. At a con setting. How 'bout that. Maybe he'll come to Sakura-con after all.
