I'm pretty much of the opinion that there really are no simplistic characters... only surfacey roleplayers. I mean... not that I want to get into character analysis here, but let's be obvious about it and pick a pure bad guy in Vicious. On the surface, he's simply cruel and arrogant and all about power. Fine. All well and good. But what I'm interested in is what got him to that point? There has to be a story, and once I figure out the story and know why he's the way he is, suddenly that surface arrogance and cruelty and power-lust becomes a whole lot more interesting: there's so much bubbling beneath that surface.
Heh, I could go on and on, but I won't. I'd bore you to tears.
