in_the_blueNow that there's no more mystery, I can do a little Yuletide self-reveal, for those who are curious.
My assignment turned into Unsurprisingly, Thrill Rides Prove to be Metaphors for Life (Baccano!). Happily, my recipient asked for Ennis/Firo, neither of whom I've ever written before. I had such fun writing this one that I wrote three more full-length stories as treats: Free (Last of the Mohicans) because I couldn't resist the Alice Munro prompt, Endgame (Last Exile) because there wasn't a single Last Exile fic in the collection and I could hardly let that happen, and Ten Things that Happened Because of the Rain (Samurai Champloo) because again, no one else had written Samurai Champloo and the episode with Jin and Shino is one of my favorites.
And then... then I was done writing and didn't do any stories for Yuletide Madness. I tried to make the Last Exile fic madness-length but it wanted to be longer, so... yeah, so it goes. Also, for those who are interested in this kind of thing, the Samurai Champloo fic is precisely and quite purposefully 1000 words; I did that as an exercise and limited myself to 100 words in each of ten snippets. I could have kept going, but it worked out in quite a balanced way, which is exactly what I was going for with that one. Kind of a Zen-Bushido-poetic intention. Whatever, it's late, I'm tired, I'm going to bed, happy 2011 to all.
