So much to write, so little time to get it all done. I've been keeping a low profile and writing lately. I have a Last Exile drabble at [livejournal.com profile] 100wordstories that's pretty much a walking spoiler for the end of the series, so be forewarned if you click the link. I also wrote way outside my comfort zone and drabbled for Vampire Academy, which... yeah, just shut up. There's also a not-very-spoilerful Dragon Age: Origins drabble at the community. What can I say? I kind of appreciate the organic ebb and flow surprisingly allowed by writing something in 100 words exactly. I like that I can let the overflow of thoughts from some current book or game or TV series or movie or whatever out into a well-channeled creative form. The 100-word format is addictive; I find myself calculating the differences between different word count programs just for grins. Microsoft Word measures differently from everything else! Punctuation, depending on its format, is calculated differently. Nothing is really reliable any more for an absolute. I wonder if this is just another case of Microsoft having to distance itself from whatever else is out there by insisting on doing things differently, or if there are different sets of global standards for word count. It's probably both.

[livejournal.com profile] jexowian and I just got back from seeing Toy Story 3 with friends. I adore this movie. It's unabashedly, unapologetically sentimental and makes me want to hug everyone at Pixar all at once.

Things are going well at [livejournal.com profile] ineedmyfics too, as far as I know. We're in the go-off-and-write phase of the fic exchange. The one thing I can say about it with absolute certainty is that I'm sure having fun working on my stuff. Maybe next time we'll have more participants, but for the first time organizing and running a ficathon (with [livejournal.com profile] lostinapapercup), it's gone pretty well. Yes, there have been lessons learned from it and yes, some things will undoubtedly work differently next time. But for now all is good and everybody seems happy.

I woke up this morning to a car screeching by on our rather winding mountainous road blaring its horn, followed immediately by a second car doing the same. We have cats, so I sat bolt upright, looked at the clock, bounded out of bed, dressed, and started accounting for all the creatures. The last thing I want is to see either of my outdoor felines squashed on the road; they're usually pretty smart about it but it's always that one time they're not that makes them pay. Fortunately, Captain Jack was waiting by the front door to come in and while I did find Klondike hanging out near the side of the road, it was with all limbs intact. She was just strolling down the street toward me, a fine how-do-you-do. Crazy cat.

There are definitely some thoughts brewing regarding roleplay, but today's not the day for me to write them out. Maybe another time... or not at all. I will say that after a really long time keeping him stuck on the asteroid, I finally let Vincent Valentine have access to Gaia again from [livejournal.com profile] outpost_12. It's been a really long time for him, and he deserves it.

I'm also thinking of deleting [livejournal.com profile] insomniatheater. I'm not sure how I feel about that at the moment. At least I like the icons.

Quick reminder note: tonight is the height of the Perseid meteor shower.

Tomorrow sundown-just-after is the triple planetary conjunction with the moon. You can see the start of it tonight; I was outside watching it just now.

Thank you for the reminder! I'll be up late tonight, so watching is going to be lovely. It'll still be light here for another hour and a bit.

oh god wordcount. i use semagic and i believe so far it mostly sounts sets of characters as words. i did start by counting by hand mind you. eegh. what, the community with your book? do nto throw the novel itelf out then, please. i nearly wanted to drabble for that on 100wordstories but no. too close for comfort i think. it'scool though. and i think it shoudl be in hardback but so shoudl probably every story my friends write because the rpose that i have seen is great. then agai ni'd be a bad literary agent because antyhing that simply captivates me gets forcefed to editors without thinking of which market it's meant for etc etc. toy story. i'll waittill it comes out on dvd then buy all three and marathon them. wheee!

I wish you would drabble for that novel! It would make me smile so widely, I'm sure. I think that's probably about the best compliment I could have on it.

Know also, when you talk about what should be published, that you are the only one who read that all the way through. I understand it's imperfect and it's definitely not for everyone, and some of the things in it would need to be edited out now because they make me cringe, but overall I think it's fairly solid. In this age of political correctness and having to be one to understand one, it would probably be a terrible move to try to get it published, but the characters are good and valid and hold up fairly well. I could even tell you what happens for them down the road a few years. I had it all worked out.

oooh .we'l lsee .i shouldn't have said thet at al lactually. i mean hello, this is how i probabl yfelt the firsttime i started an hp fanfic. liek 'oh my god my favourite boosk and i pull on the canvas and wantto add more colors?" oh well one day when i getthe right two cables together somethign will spark. no no no no no sequels jsut yet. unless i remember rightly that you said the novel itsefl wasn't finished. it felt finished to me. and what do you mean you ahve to be one to write about it? i remember somethign about jean auel tryign to fake prehhistoric life adn that's as far as one can get when one wants to write abut that? i physically don't know what it's liek to see people or watch birds and I describe things from my head with a whole lot of guesswork and apparently it comes out fine. fine as in 'huh? arey ou blind? i never noticed' that kidn of fine. i shoudl find out if i mention a lot of colors though or gestures or facial expressions. maybe i'm payign more attention to tone of voice or to what someone says. well you've been among native americans often enough to paint the picture. adn we'll have no clue if it soudns genuien enoug hor if it will offend someone who'd think it's too overdoen or stereotypical. to my naive ears it sounded fine. but i know nothing about this stuff and liek i said if i were an agent i'd be too enthusiastic to pay proper attention to the thigns that work and don't work and if someone wants me to edit their stuff they'll probably get it back with jsut exclamation marks adn cheers. remember the fic o yorus i read throug hwithout pointing anything out? all i did was sit up till 3 am to read that in one go and then thought 'oh shit. i was supposed to beta this...' heh. probably a sort of countereffect to al lthe time in e-groups where we analyzed hp adn related literar ystuff till it fell apart. ruined my enthusiasm for literary studiesthat did.
