PSA - Haiti

Remember: you can donate unused frequent flyer miles to charities! I have miles on United that are about to expire next month, and I will donate them to the American Red Cross for travel for aid workers providing disaster response.

I've also donated to Mercy Corps., my local disaster-response group. They're sending a team tonight to the Dominican Republic to procure a truck so they can provide food and fresh water to those stricken in Haiti. After the most immediate needs are met, they hire people to help restore the infrastructure: roads, building sites, and so on. Right now they have a donor challenge: an anonymous donor will match the next $250,000 they raise.

Oh, I'm glad to know that about Mercy Corps. Puma, I think, posted a link to them on her LJ and we donated without even really knowing what they do. (I did check out their Charity Navigator score, and I remember seeing that they were in the Pacific Northwest.)

Wish I had some frequent flyer miles to donate, but I don't think I have any. I haven't frequently flown in a long time!
