In this episode of Life Imitates Cowboy Bebop, I can report to you that the racoons (Faye) stole all the holiday treats except the suet pinecone from the tree sometime in the night.

Oh well. Easy come, easy go. At least someone got to eat the stuff.

In other news, it's 54 degrees out today as opposed to last week at this time when it was 13 degrees. I don't even mind the rain that goes with the warmer temperatures but people please, please, if you're going to become mountain climbers, don't take Mount Hood lightly. It's one of the most popular climbs in the U.S.: it's accessible, rated fairly doable for those with only moderate experience, and every year or so climbers lose their lives to the mountain. I don't know if you've been following the story of the three climbers who went up last Friday (after 48 hours the chance of survival out there drops to 1%) and never returned. They found the body of one on Saturday and have called off the search for the other two because of weather conditions and high avalanche risk.

I have such mixed feelings about mountain climbing as a sport. I love hiking, and I love hiking on and around Mount Hood. It's beautiful. It's liberating. It's fantastic. I'm blessed to live in such a gorgeous part of the country. I can understand the allure of wanting to get to the summit; you can see clear to the Pacific Ocean from there. But like so many things, it's a hazardous journey and I'm so sorry for those whose lives are claimed by it. Just.... ugh. I guess I'm not that kind of a risk-taker.

In complete contrast, I've been watching Baccano! which is really illegal amounts of fun so far. The series is not for everyone, I think, but I don't want to make any judgments on it until I see all of it.

I'm not usually one to complain loudly about things outside my control, but I'm ready for this year to be over.

Hugs and good thoughts to those that need them.
