Eh, I'm kind of tired.

Of all of it. Still slogging through all the comments on [livejournal.com profile] news and I've come to the conclusion that about half of the 13,062,503 LJ owners are total asshats. Actually, I'd love a count of how many journals are active. Numbers are all well and good, but that's awfully inflated. People create journals and never use them, never update them, never post comments from them. I'd be curious to know what the active number of users is.

But honestly, I don't really care that much. It's just a curiosity. So if you're reading this, tell me something good that has nothing to do with LJ.

I'm within about five minutes of getting the entire recording of a living room concert Jeff Tweedy did back in March. He does about four or five of these a year -- auctions them off, donates the proceeds to charity, and then gives the auction winners a concert in somebody's basement. Not only is it all-request and all-acoustic, he usually invites the audience to try and stump him by asking him to play something he doesn't know. It's pretty rare when that happens.

He's an all-around stand-up kind of guy, and I'm glad he's gotten his life pretty much straightened out.

I see (hear?) you talk about him a lot. I've never heard his music, but I bet I should.

You totally should! I'm not sure what to recommend/upload, because Wilco pretty much reinvents their sound with every new album. Yankee Hotel Foxtrot is the so-called breakthrough album, though -- they did a lot of work with Jim O'Rourke, so it veers away pretty strongly from the alt-country stuff they were known for at first.

skygiants: Princess Tutu, facing darkness with a green light in the distance (teach me to hear mermaids)
From: [personal profile] skygiants
Every so often, around 5:30 in the evening, the bell tower on my campus begins letting out a horrific racket. It's probably meant to be a tune of some sort. Possibly. But it does not really reach anywhere near the mark. The tower is clearly manned by a bevy of unmusical Welshmen and any who venture within, say, a quarter-mile of it must do so at their own risk.

However: yesterday, as my route was taking me inevitably by the bell tower and I was grumping inwardly about the way in which my ears were being assaulted, I saw a small child with a large plastic sword (and an appropriate scabbard, of course) run in front of me and attack the bell tower. With a large plastic sword.

And that made everything better. :D

The most productive thing I did today was create a campus for my teenage Sims.

Oh, and go running. But I really think the Sims thing beat that out.

It's been raining a fair amount these last few days, followed by random sun. This has caused all of the seeds I planted in my flower garden to germinate. I have things that are not weeds growing there!

How annoying that I don't have a flower garden icon to respond in kind. I coveted your garden last year, but has it made me get off my ass, put away the RP, and plant my own? No.....

Not yet, anyway.

Well, admittedly I've done nothing to it but plant it, so far. I planted it, watered it once, and pulled about 5 weeds. There isn't any point in doing much more until the flowers get bigger than the weeds.

Or vice versa.

It's been in the 90s here this week. If I planted seeds now, they'd be all ha ha ha motherfucker, I ain't growing. That makes for a very good excuse, along with the slugs, skunks, and raccoons.

I go outside at night to call for my cats, and the raccoons come running. My little marauding bandits.

Thankfully, we have fortified the place against skunks and raccoons. We built a bin for our trashcans, stopped leaving out food and water at night, and tied down the lid of the compost with bungee cords. The bastards ransacked everything all last year.

I find that putting out beer in a plastic bowl will help keep down your slug problem. Of course, then you have a bowl full of drowned slugs and slimy beer, but it's better than them eating your plants.

Diatomaceous earth is also pretty handy stuff. Put a circle all around your garden, and some around plants that are hardcore slug attractors.

Supposedly, slugs won't cross over copper either, so I always think I ought to coil copper wire around my flowerpots.

It's humid here two but i finished two more books on my children's lit list for next semester I don't know what interests Hannah or I'd try and recommend something.

Oh and when I was at my Aunt's I kept seeing howl's moving Castle on cable and thought of you.

Re: Howl -- the books are better.

Hannah just read Maximum Ride #1 in one sitting. She liked it. I haven't read it yet to know exactly what it's about, but she got a few Amazon gift certificates for her birthday and ordered all 3 books in the series. She saw them recommended in a review for some fan art on DeviantArt and knew she'd like them.

I'm glad the first book lived up to her expectations.

She also likes Shakespeare, Matt Groening, and Tolkien in addition to Diana Wynne Jones and Terry Pratchett. she's got varied tastes, my 12-year-old.

[thinks] I bought dog food today, which means I won't run out yet.

I also went to bed REALLYreally late (see above for reason), but I'm not faceplanting my keyboard.

I also picked up another dog tether, so it'll be easier to tie up Dog so Sirius can go out safely, until Dog gets a new home.

I got Disk 2 of Princess Tutu today.

Hahaha, I keep reading that first line as "I bought hot dog food today" but I think that's probably not what you meant at all.

When's Dog getting a new home?

Date: 2007-06-01 06:35 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] sff-corgi.livejournal.com
Nah, it's only hot dog food when I nuke the broth before mixing it with the canned food and kibble. Or fresh rice, that's usually pretty warm. Or if I do some mad-scientist sort of thing in a saucepan for them....

'Course, if you mean 'hot' modifying 'dog[s]', that's true too, because the living room A/C is persisting in not healing itself, stupid machine, and after running around and barking so much, they're usually pretty hot and now can't cool down so well.

Wish I knew when he was. Myfi was going to call my sort-of-neighbour for me and ask him in Spanish if he wanted a dog, but I think her boychild's proved too much of a distraction of late. I'll have to remind her; after school's over maybe. I also need to make absolutely sure they don't have chips.

Oh, wait, I get it. ID chips. Yeah, it takes like... 2 seconds for them to scan the dog at any vet's office and they'd better do it for free.

No, they've been expecting him. He was actually due on Saturday, but waited nearly a week to show up. His name is Matthew Gavin, they're going to call him Gavin. He weighed exactly 8lbs, and measured 20 inches. They're all doing fine, and we'll probably go and meet him later this evening. Sorry to steal Bernie away again.
