Welcome to my new lj name. I might still answer to sit_good_dog and you can still get here from there.

Just wanted to let everyone know. It's still me. And now I'm going to catch up on everything, like I didn't do yesterday, because I worked but (train of consciousness coming up here) I worked! then we did Household Stuff. Then I figured I deserved to play last night and I did. I have to say Howl got popular. I'm wondering what happens to him after the movie's out on DVD next month, because I play him by the book.

End rambling. Move along. Not much else to say.

Saw the word howl and thought of a blue faced Boadicea, charging into battle against the Romans! Gotta love those Celts.

Woof!

But was woad used by the Iceni? I keep thinking of it as a northern thing.

Based on info I gained while researching medicinal herbs (AP took me to some strange sites) I learned that woad was not just used as a face paint but also as an astringent used on battle wounds. It left the wound area quite blue for the healing process, yet once the wound closed the scar was not blue in color. Tattoos were given blue coloring by copper, a metal in use at this time. Also, because of AP and my beta [livejournal.com profile] jediboadicea I found a site (drat-can't find now) that had a description of Boadicea as a woad faced warrior riding into battle. I used it as a description Severus Snape used to describe Raven; this as a big shout out to JB who never even mentioned it, darn her! So basically, with that convoluted story behind me, I'm not sure if the experts really know who used woad for what. One site basically stated they needed more dead bog-bodies to know for sure if it was body paint or war wounds covered in woad in an effort to heal the injured. If their dead in the bog, it must not have worked.

I found this piece of art of Boadicea, thought you might like: Boadicea (http://travesti.geophys.mcgill.ca/~olivia/BOUDICA/boadicea.jpg)

It's a snippet of song lyric, actually, from a song called Blue by Yoko Kanno. Beyond that, I just like it: it suits my mood and my favorite color, so...

Oh, yay, you said who you used to be, and thus, I loff you muchly. People never do that, and for me, reading via flist and handheld, it's always so hard to see what ID someone used to have. Best wishes with the new name!
