Sep. 1st, 2010 02:20 pmIt's kind of sad that I've spent the better part of the last five years avoiding Facebook only to have it show up here. I know it's like the ghetto landlord of the internet, but there are so many reasons I don't have a FB account and they're really good ones too, and they all have to do with privacy. I also think it's kind of sad that yet again, LJ took the opportunity to basically pull the rug out from under its userbase by implementing such a global change without making it opt-out. Or opt-in would have been better, but I'm not asking for miracles.
I mean, I trust whoever's reading here (and my increasingly unhappy ego says yeah, like anyone even reads your journal, don't get a swelled head over it) not to go linking stuff of mine to Facebook and Twitter. If it's a public post, it's public but if it's not, then we're all adults here and we all have common sense. If this was something I could turn off for my journal entries, I would. If I wanted a FB account, I would have one. If I wanted a Twitter account, I wouldn't have deleted mine.
That's the end of that story. I noticed also that on some pages, I'm not getting the little userhead displayed next to the journal name. That's happening at
outpost_12, annoyingly enough, although it might just be for me. Time to go empty the cache and restart the browser and see if that makes a difference. There are already reports on it on the support boards and I have to tell you, as a former QA engineer specializing in usability, it really chafes my hide when bugs like this are introduced. The common theory on the support boards is that it has to do with that pingback header that keeps showing up, and there's another change they didn't bother to okay with the general population first. It's making me a little bit unhappy today.
And that's after yellow curry. Oh well.
