In other words: THE REPORT FROM SOCAL, DAY ONE.
From LAX we first went to Uncle Bill's Pancake House in Manhattan Beach and man, was that good. Then we walked down to the pier and watched the surfers, then we drove to Anaheim. We decided to go to California Adventure first because honestly, it's my theme park of choice. We went on Soaring Over California (a grand virtual reality ride), then the California Screamin' coaster (Hannah and I got to sit in the front car! For the loop-de-loop and everything! It was excellent!) then on the Orange Stinger or whatever the swing ride is called, then the Mulholland Madness wild mouse coaster, although we kept calling it the Modest Mouse coaster. Then we went to the Grizzly River Run which was nice because even though we got soaked, it was a pretty hot sunny day.
Then we crossed the plaza to Disneyland, found out that Splash Mountain was broken (OH NO), went on the revamped Pirates of the Caribbean ride, tried for Space Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain but they each had an hour wait time, so we got ice cream (Hannah was pleased that she got to bite off Mickey Mouse's ears) and rode the Matterhorn Bobsleds.
After that, it was time to go; we drove east and here we are in Palm Desert. Oh, yes, it's HOT here. But as my little one pointed out so nicely, it's a dry heat.
Disney was fun! California Adventure wasn't even very crowded; the longest wait we had was 20 minutes. Hannah didn't want to go on the Tower of Terror (sob) so we skipped it. But she was completely thrilled and we walked our butts off, avoiding the never-ending live tribute to High School Musical. Disneyland itself was way crowded. Next time, I'm just going to California Adventure. The revamped Pirates ride is pretty nice and the animatronic Johnnys are adorable. It's longer now, and nice and air-conditioned.
If we'd had more time we would have ridden more rides, but as it was we were there for almost five hours. That was just about the right amount of time.
Tomorrow morning at oh-no-o'clock we're taking a nature tour of the desert and the Joshua Tree Monument. That should be awesome. And otherwise, we're just hanging around. And that's my update for the day. Oh, and tomorrow I will wear sunscreen. Yup.
