Because enough shit happens in life and even more is slated to happen...

So yesterday I was looking at my DW icons thinking it might be time to retire a bunch of my Battlestar Galactica icons to make room for other things. That gave me a fleeting moment of sadness. BSG will always be close to my heart, but the fandom of my heart is still Cowboy Bebop. Then I started thinking about how defining myself in the space of 100 icons can be a pretty accurate reflection on the fandoms I like currently and the ones that interest me most.

Update the icons: yes or no? Do I really need more Dragon Age icons (what a silly question, who doesn't). Also I know I talked about it a little on twitter, but boy, Heroes of Dragon Age is such a beautiful game. The player part of me knows it was hard enough to narrow down a party to five members in each of the games, but now I can have up to 550 party members to choose from, across all the games. I know I've been playing too much when I start saying things to myself like "hey, that Enraged Spirit is pretty kickass!" or "I'm gonna max-power my Level III ogre."

That was a digression. It does make me want to get off my butt and finish my Mage playthrough of Inquisition.

Also: still tapping my fingers waiting for news on the Final Fantasy VII remake. I know, how old-school of me. By the time it comes out, I'll probably have lost interest. Sorry, Vincent. You are still the Crown Prince of Emo.

I guess that's about it! I'm still thinking about fandoms. I'm not really in any any more, at least not in a visible sort of way. What are all of you doing/watching/reading/RPing in your spare time?

I am utterly fascinated with Fallout 4, though it's only just through other people's Let's Plays at this point. I get so frustrated with gameplay sometimes I'm not sure actually playing is for me, but I love watching people who are good at gaming do their thing.

There's a Youtuber called thenthapple who does "lore" videos--going through everything you can find in a certain location, and putting together the story. I love it.

I'm rewatching Steven Universe and first-time-watching Emmerdale, which is a terrible British soap opera that I'm obsessed with. And I am playing Dragon Age! Very slowly. Still. Probably forever.

It's SO GOOD, omg *__*

I am on Inquisition! I haven't played in a couple weeks because life has been wild, but I think I had just picked up Vivienne and Sera as companions. Shati, meanwhile, has already beat the game, so I have some catching up to do!

I have a massive anime backlog that I'm working through bit by bit, though the show that's sparked the nearest thing to fannishness in me lately has been Cute High Earth Defense Club LOVE!. (I just added two icons for it to my icon roster, one of which is used here.) It is a deeply silly show, a straight-faced, unashamed parody of the magical girl genre with an all-male cast, cute animal mascots, lovingly animated nude transformation sequences for just about everyone, a Ridiculously Overpowered Evil Student Council (commanded by their own mascot animal, an evil green hedgehog), and a great twist ending. But for all its silliness, the characters manage to hit everything I love about the genre, right down to the redeeming power of friendship -- and especially for the Evil Student Council, who all have sympathetic backstories for why they're on the side of evil in the first place. I think it's one of those shows that just hit me at the right time.

Work has been sucking up too much of my creativity for RP as of late, but perhaps I should push myself to try a little harder and see if I still have a few sparks in me yet.

Samurai Champloo is definitely a fun ride. The episode with the donburi eating competition in particular never fails to make me crack up, because Fuu is fantastic. And Last Exile, sadly, is one of those series that I think had a lot of interesting pieces but never quite seemed to be able to form a coherent whole out of the sum of its parts. (Love the soundtrack, though.)

Oh, almost forgot! One show that I'm just starting to watch with a local friend is Space Brothers, about a pair of brothers from Japan who are trying to become astronauts -- or rather, the older brother is following in the footsteps of his younger brother, who's already managed to make it into the NASA program. I've heard good things about it, but it's one of those 90-episode behemoths. Now that the official run of Sailor Moon is almost over on Hulu (episode 200 airs on Monday!), I need another long series to watch, and I think this one will fit the bill. It's fun and engaging so far.
