So instead of a Christmas/Yule/Solstice/Whatever tree (and please don't read those as me slashing all those things for fanfic purposes, okay?) we decided to take the money we would have spent on chopping down a tree on supplies for the birds. Today we hung a giant suet pine cone (and I do mean giant, like... a 14" pine cone) and two bird seed bells and one bird seed Christmas tree and one bird seed ornament on the trees we can see from our living room window. Yes, hush, I know there are already 2 seed feeders and a suet feeder out there, but it seemed like it made more sense to keep the little birds happy and warm and fed than it did to cut down a tree and bring it inside so the cats could routinely destroy it and in the process, drive me absolutely crazy.

It's great. The birds are so happy.

And I am so cold. I have been since we put that stuff out.

And before I forget like I did yesterday:

Happy birthday, Juli!!!!! I hope you had an absolutely beautiful birthday, my friend!

Now it's time to take advantage of my Teavana experience the other day, which I neglected to write about, I think, and go brew something hot to drink. Or at least something hot to hold in my hands to warm them up.

I think that's a great idea.

I miss the smell of a tree in the living room, though. When we had a cat in residence, she was really good about the tree and merely curled up beneath it in an immensely photogenic manner.

[rubs G's shoulders vigorously to help warm her up]

I think last time we had one, Will Turner climbed it. He's a little too big for that now, but I'm not in the mood to wake up every morning and find ornaments littering the living room. Plus, neighbor cat thinks he lives here, so who knows what his deal is with trees.

Oh, perfectly understandable. I think we were just unusually lucky (until Cat peed in Aunt Vi's orthotic shoes, that is).
