Sports Night

in_the_blueWe're all going to support our non-local team tonight. The annual trek to see the Celtics (go Boston!) play the Trail Blazers (ho hum). The problem is that right about now, both teams SUX and we wonder what ex-Blazer Danny Ainge is doing to destroy his Celtics team.
Absolutely related in an unrelated way, I walked down NW 23d street behind Bill Walton a couple weeks ago. He's tall. He was so nice, he stopped to chat with people and sign autographs. No, I didn't ask him; my hands were full of delicious coffee drinks and I have my priorities.
What's with all these guys who used to play for both teams? When I first moved to Portland from Boston, my neighbour Debra invited me to a Halloween-night fest at her daughter Lore's elementary school. Danny Ainge was there. Now I have to fess up that really--unless it's someone spectacular--I don't have an eye for sports celebrities. I did used to like it, though, when Clyde Drexler was here and I'd see him pushing his kid in a stroller at the mall. Other than that and before he got traded, I used to see Rasheed Wallace in the electronics section of Toys R Us all the time. The shiny new Hummer in the parking lot was always a giveaway that he was there. But I'd have to say this is a pretty blasé town about their sports celebs. Especially with the team we've got.

Date: 2004-02-22 06:31 am (UTC)And tonight, you know what? It was a good night to be a Trail Blazer fan. It was fun to go anyhow. Hannah had a blast, and we actually had seats with unobstructed views.
We met some other Boston people on the way in who had tickets in Paul Allen's luxe suite. Those suites are definitely the way to go; I've sat in them a few times for different events. If I only had the money. I don't think it's worth $25000 a year though, or whatever a share in them costs.
