I don't know if it's a good thing or a bad thing to play so many characters, but I do know that I woke up this morning absolutely in the brain of one of my RP characters... and it wasn't the same one who was stealing my thoughts when I went to sleep last night. Talk about jockeying for position. This was my day to sleep late, but waking up that way pretty much negated any chance of getting back to sleep. So I had to get up and write the piece that was there in its entirety in my waking thoughts.

Speaking of writing, I've been working on my original fic a little bit at a time. I'm kind of looking forward to Thanksgiving and the plane trip, because I usually write really well on planes. Go figure. I might not be able to write on my laptop, depending on seating and how tight the rows are and all that, but I can write longhand. I'm not participating in NaNoWriMo for the same reasons I didn't participate last year or the year before: artificial deadlines, my innate need to defy authority, all that good stuff. Besides, I like writing the way I do. I could probably use a kick in the ass, but... who's keeping track? Just me.

One thing I love about the process (such as it is) of writing the way I do is that it allows a lot of time for characters to develop. It turns out that some of the characters I thought were minor are shaping up to play much bigger roles, and they're all pleased as punch about that. I like what's happening, because it feels like a natural and necessary evolution. Sometimes, mere concepts aren't enough to keep a thing going, although they're almost always a great excuse to get something started. Contrary to popular belief, I tend to like finishing the things I start.

One of Hannah's friends yesterday is a big fan of Vic Mignogna, so we chatted about him for a while. She's such a fangirl that it's absolutely adorable. I'm thrilled that fandom consists of people of all ages. It can become such a petty thing, fandom, and that's really discouraging in so many ways. But it's been a solid year since I really divested from the HP fandom -- I was only ever there on the periphery anyway, watching in horror from the sidelines as it immolated again and again -- and I can't say I miss it in the least. I've decided that I'm perfectly content to be a fan of the things I like and not involved in their fandoms. That suits me just fine. That stated, though, I think if I go to Otakon again next year, I'm going to cosplay. Gotta do it at least once, right? I mean, I did cosplay Spike for the Millicon LARP the first year, and that was fun. But it would be someone else next time around. I'm the original Queen of Hating to Repeat Myself. That's my new title.

You guys want another writing challenge? I can come up with one.

Oh, if you're at [livejournal.com profile] milliways_bar and have any interest, Howl and Sophie are getting married today. We actually took our time and crafted the wedding slowly and with great affection. It's been very sweet. Becca posted details in the back room, if anyone's characters are interested in having been there. We're easy.

Paging [livejournal.com profile] lostinapapercup: I need you, ma'am. ♥ (It's sekrit.)

Note to self: while tasty as hell, Reese's Peanut Butter Cups are not a healthy breakfast. Stick to the Doritos.

I'm kidding, people.

P.S. Go Sox.
