My original fandom name was a very boring, very common one. ("Jedi Kenobi" - I was 14 and in love with Ewan McGregor.) That eventually got shortened, but "JK" wasn't much better, because most places require names of at least 3 letters or more. So after I moved to HP fandom, when I wanted to register a geocities account, I came up with a name for what I was planning to make my site's mascot, a phoenix. I wanted something with "ash" in the name, because I was corny like that at age 15. ;-) So I came up with the name "ashavah" and liked it and took it as my alternate pen name.
