Sometimes I forget this isn't exactly the suburbs.

I looked out my window just now and saw the most beautiful cat: big and tawny with half a tail and subtle spots on its tan coat and black running down its legs. I said "hello, what a beautiful cat you are? Who are you?"

Then I realized it wasn't a house cat at all.

It was a bobcat.

Huh. In the past week I've seen a million raccoons, a beautiful young buck with his antlers just about 8 or 9" long standing in my yard, and now Monsieur Bobcat. This... doesn't bode real well for Hector, although he's bigger than the standard bobcat prey and this one wasn't all that big. But it would probably have been enough to chase my cat away.

No more letting the cats out, I think, no matter what they want. Fortunately, Jack and Klondike stick really close to home and the wild critters don't sit around the front door eating Science Diet dry food (except for the raccoons and opossums and skunks). I know. We used to have foxes living in the side yard. They'd growl at me at night when I went to take out the trash.

I nearly hit a deer on the way to work the other day. Lots of wildlife in my part of NH, too.

I meant to mention it earlier, but I'm crossing my fingers for Hector! Here's hoping!

Co tells me that Saint Gertrude is the patron saint of cats. I hope she's watching out for Hector and that he returns safe and sound.

*hugs*

Sorry, I was really tickled that you exchanged pleasantries with a bobcat.

Also, glad that it didn't attack you.

Also, still hopeful that Hector is OK and on his way home after an extended period of tomcatting.

And finally, kind of relieved/envious because all we get around our house are strange birds, weird bugs and the occasional reptile (usually monitor lizards).

Wow. Just trotting through your yard, or helping kirself to the dry food too?

Oh wow! You do live close to the wild, don't you!

I'm still hoping for Hector's safe return.
