Thought I'd put something in here for public consumption:
We're no longer the top weather story on CNN.
Phew!
In other news, I was able to get back to work on Friday... although the client who's been postponing a day at a time due to weather decided that we should just forget about this past week and start again next week. That worked for me.
We were able to bring food supplies to my in-laws (all right, they're both elderly and my father-in-law is wheelchair-bound and we won't let my mother-in-law drive in any kind of weather), so that was part of our outing today.
(how boring is this entry? about as exciting as my life lately?)
I've been beta-reading like crazy, which means I haven't had time to write for myself. Not that I'm particularly inspired. I read over my Sirius Year 7 fic but that was days ago; I want to finish it/don't want to finish it tonight. I didn't get quite as much sleep as I wanted last night, and all the Dogstar people kept me hopping. That will have to be enough creative writing for one day.
But working the storyline at the Academi did lead to a sticky plot point, for all you HP people out there. Memory modification - the timing of it must be critically important. I've been having to work around that for a while here (and also because it plays such a major role in my Quidditch World Cup alternate POV work-in-progress). I couldn't let my head of security Obliviate someone and then have that same person Disapparate of their own accord. What if they couldn't remember where they were going? So we had to work out a plot where the person was escorted out of our protected location, Obliviated, and then sent on their way through the gate to their home and familiar surroundings.
A similar thing happened with another character; I'm going to have to cast that spell then hand her a Portkey. In all good conscience, I couldn't let Sirius do that any other way.
Oh well, it's just a thing. I worked it out. But it made me wish that JKR was a bit less obscure about the way some of the stuff works in her books. (My Inner Eye shows me a great expanse of notes containing the words This Space Intentionally Left Blank.
I think I'll go watch The Two Towers.

Date: 2004-01-11 12:56 am (UTC)Heh. I thought it was pretty funny that whole little plot made you have to think. It seems to be thought of as quite a feat to stump the Headmaster. So I'm quite proud of myself. :) I'll have to see if I can do it again some time. I thought you did a really good job of handling it though!
Have fun watching TTT. Extended Edition I assume. I thought it was quite good.

I haven't been stumped yet... and you'll see what I'm going to do; it's all worked out. But now, I think I'll wait to post it till tomorrow. Just to keep you guessing.

Heh.
I like to try to stay a step ahead, and fortunately I think quickly.
