Ficlet #2

shellebelle93 asked for Mugen being what he thinks is a "nice guy" and wickedtrue asked for Mugen in love. It seems to me like Mugen in love kind of goes hand-in-hand with Mugen being what he thinks is a nice guy, so I'm combining the two ideas into one ficlet. To you two I say this: watch what you ask for; you might just get it.

Twenty dumplings. No, fifty. Screw that, a hundred: ain't no such thing as too many dumplings. Not when you grow up alone and a little bit pissed off about every damn thing and the only thing you want is a safe place to sleep and food, however you can get it. So back off, tall dark and four-eyed and you too, ya whiney little flat-chested bitch, this food's mine. Fight you for it. Hell, I could kill your sorry asses with just these chopsticks.

(Shit, these are good frickin' dumplings. Guess I could share; there's lots of them. Only then they'll be all ooh Mugen, what kinda bug crawled up YOUR sorry ass that turned you nice all of a sudden? like some pair of mooks and I don't feel like explainin' myself to no one for no damn reason but you know what? I don't give a rat's ass.)

"Hey. Here."

Fuu looks at me like I'm wearin' her pink kimono inside out and Jin? well, that son of a bitch just looks at me over those frickin' glasses and goes hmmm like he's all hot shit, like it actually means anything. But like I said, I don't give a rat's ass 'cause I got food and lots of it. And notice how neither of them hesitates. That Fuu, she eats more'n anyone I know. Crazy little bottomless pit.

But ya know what? These are the best frickin' dumplings I ever ate. I think I'm in love with them.

So here's the thing, both of you: Mugen is 19. He's feral. He survives by his wits, but barely. The only reason he's ever nice is if he gets something out of it, and in my humble estimation there are only two things Mugen's capable of loving: food and fighting. On a human person-to-person level, I doubt he's ever been in love. I don't think he knows how to be in love. I also don't think he likes to show that he can be nice, because that goes against his fighting, don't-give-a-fuck stance. He's about as guarded and shielded as a person can be. This is why to me, sharing food is as generous as he gets and it's also the closest he comes to loving anything.

Thanks. It wasn't easy to write. I don't think he's supposed to be an easy character to peg, though. You know, if Shinichiro Watanabe is as much like both Spike and Mugen as he claims, I'd pay just to be in his presence.

I guess I just like bad boys. :)
