Because
sff_corgi did it and got it from
immovablemover, I guess I'll play, too.
2003: The Year in Review
1. What did you do in 2003 that you'd never done before?
Drove to California and back.
Moved my massage practice.
Wrote to Herself.
Weblished my fanfics.
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Hell no; I hate New Year's resolutions. That stated, I do have two for 2004: get a dog, and go to Europe.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Yeah, my friend Shannon had a very healthy baby boy in August. And my friend Amy is due any second now. Literally.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
Well, yeah. What she said, and what she said, too.
My parents lost two of their three dogs this year.
My good friend Holly's dad passed away just last week.
5. What countries did you visit?
Blame Canada.
6. What would you like to have in 2004 that you lacked in 2003?
High-speed internet.
My own dog.
A winning lottery ticket.
7. What date from 2003 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
September 29, and not only because of Chester the cat.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Building my own universe; getting my fics on the Quill, and attracting my OTG.
9. What was your biggest failure?
Not doing more for The Campaign.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Nah, I'm pretty healthy. Didn't even have any massage-related injuries.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
My treo, and the stuff that's winging its way to
sff_corgi as we speak. I don't really care a hell of a lot about things.
12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
My daughter Hannah for turning into such a fabulous 8-year-old, Sandy and Grant for trekking all the way over here from Baltimore, She-Who-I-Never-Call-Lisa for being unbelievably loyal and supportive, and Medeni for putting up with everything.
13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
Well... if they made me appalled and depressed they're not worth dwelling on, are they. Just to name someone, I'll go with Bellatrix Lestrange.
14. Where did most of your money go?
First, to Hannah's school. Then to moving my massage practice, but it was worth it. Then to books and gifts for other people--I'm the original giveaway person, I can't help it.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Erm, in chronological order? Finishing the beaded portrait of Jason Carter (dunno why, but I was thrilled to be done with it), making Dogstar Academy, getting my fics accepted to the Sugar Quill, getting to go on a Thelma-and-Louise road trip with
sff_corgi...
16. What song will always remind you of 2003?
Van Morrison, Crazy Love. The Clash, Janie Jones.
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder?
Oh, about the same, but richer in friends and a lot more tired.
ii. thinner or fatter?
Oh, about the same. Maybe a touch thinner.
iii. richer or poorer?
I hate to sound redundant but... oh, about the same.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Travel. Swimming.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Solo-parenting.
20. How will you be spending Christmas?
With my husband and daughter. If it wasn't supposed to rain, I'd make us all go somewhere nice for a hike or birdwatch, but seeing as how this is the Pacific Northwest...
21. How will I spend my Yule?
I went to see Return of the King for the second time. Die, Denethor, die I say!
22. Did you fall in love in 2003?
Of course. Fell hard, too.
23. How many one night stands?
I'm married. I'm faithful. Do dream indiscretions count?
24. What was your favourite TV programme?
Six Feet Under.
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Nah.
26. What was the best book you read?
War for the Oaks by Emma Bull.
27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
That Norah Jones' CD makes for great massage music.
28. What did you want and get?
Stwff from Jason Carter.
29. What did you want and not get?
World peace; a cure for AIDS; a less hectic life.
30. What was your favourite film of this year?
Dunno... I didn't hit the movies as regularly this year as in previous years. Since I just saw Return of the King and it's fresh on my mind, I'd say that qualifies. But really, it might be Pirates of the Caribbean, not sure.
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
God. It was one of my more depressing birthdays. I had a house full of guests and in the morning we had breakfast together and I got some cards and stuff, and then everyone left. My husband went off to run errands, and my house guests either went home or left to run errands, so it was just me and my daughter and the snow falling and the fire in the wood stove. But
sff_corgi remembered and called, so that was something. No one asked me what I wanted to do or if I wanted to go somewhere special, and there was no cake or particular celebratory cachu. I'd rather forget it.
46.
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
I'm telling you, high-speed internet access. It's the one thing that sux about living where we do.
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2003?
Black. Siriusly.
34. What kept you sane?
Lisa. Moving my massage business to be with Theresa again.
I'm not so sure I am sane.
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
The Jasons--Carter and Isaacs.
36. What political issue stirred you the most?
War, famine, disaster, and the erosion of freedom of choice in this country.
37. Who did you miss?
Ginger and Tommie, the two cats I lost most recently.
My DH, he was away too much and things suffered for it.
38. Who was the best new person you met?
The best?
sff_corgi.
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2003.
Everything has a reason, and everything we need to have happen happens in due time.
And that it was a right fine year to learn to speak Welsh.
40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
Eww.
'I'm just sitting here waiting for you to come on home and turn me on.'
Only I don't sit and wait.
