Comment to this post, and I will list seven things I want you to talk about. They might make sense or they might be totally random.
Then post that list, with your commentary, to your journal. Other people can get lists from you, and the meme merrily perpetuates itself.
1. How did you get into photography?
My fascination with it started when I was little and got my first camera. My sisters and I used to take them with us to a local farm, where we'd pretend to be famous photographers and take incredibly obnoxious closeups of the animals. We had rolls and rolls of those. For a while I was both in love and in hate with my film camera, a Pentax ME Super. Film was expensive and getting the film developed was a pain in the ass, but boy, do I love digital photography. I think I've always been fascinated by the representations of those slices of life we see in photos, whether they're "good" photos or "bad" ones. I like the artistry of just being able to capture a moment, some innocent little moment, and having it around for the duration.
2. What is your favorite thing to do to relax?
Write. Next?
3. Tea or coffee? Why?
Depends on the time of day. I drink a lot more tea than coffee, in general, especially later in the day. I have a little bit of a love affair with unsweetened fruit teas. My current favorites are blueberry and tangerine-orange, although I really did go through a pomegranate phase last fall. I can live without both coffee and tea, and unlike some people don't crave the caffeine in coffee at all. As far as why goes: tea is a great way to get in a lot of liquid, and unsweetened tea is a win/win. It's not bad for you, it doesn't take away from anything else, and tastes wonderful.
4. If you could only have one book to read for the rest of your life, what would it be?
This is such an unfair question. I've been pondering it all day. Just one? I keep coming back to Diana Wynne Jones & Howl's Moving Castle. I've read it so many times I practically know it by heart, but I never get tired of rereading it. There's so much beautiful and sweet little minutiae in it that I still always find new things to giggle over. On the more serious end of the scale, I come back to Louise Erdrich's Love Medicine, which is its own little love affair with all sorts of things. It's one of the most heartfelt things I've ever read, but I don't know if I'd want it to be my only forever book so I guess I have to vote for Howl. I'm sure I'm overlooking something entirely obvious here, the one book that would make me sit up and go "I can't believe you didn't pick Poems and Two Plays by William Butler Yeats" or a collection of poetry by Pablo Neruda or Octavio Paz.
5. What would be your dream job?
I would love to get paid to write. I have no one to blame but myself for not doing that.
6. What is your favorite place in the entire world?
I could cheat and say wherever my family is but I'm actually going to go with St. Lucia. There's a private beach there, it was completely unspoiled when I was there, and the sand was hot and the water was cool and no one else was in sight. Jamaica almost won out (Negril specifically) but there's too much hustle for it to be my favorite place.
7. How did you get into fandom?
This question interests me, because I don't consider myself as being in any particular fandom. I'm a fan of a lot of things, but I've never thrown myself into a fandom in a damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead kind of way. Even when I was on staff at the Sugar Quill, I always considered myself to be on the periphery of the Harry Potter fandom. Someone called me a bnf over there once, and I practically bristled. I like being able to be a fan without the batshit mania of most fandom.
