Adventures in Remodeling
Dec. 4th, 2005 11:22 amLesson One. Never take your microwave for granted.
Lesson Two. When living without a kitchen, make sure you have something to heat water in.
Lesson Three. Don't pack up all the kitchen implements.
It's cold here. I don't want cold food. I'm very glad to have my refrigerator. I'm very glad we saved our toaster oven. That's about the only thing that's doing anything for me right now, but I want hot liquid. Now, to be fair, we thought we could reuse our microwave but we found out that it was a built-in and couldn't. Instead of going over to Costco like normal people and getting the cheapest microwave we could find, my darling husband decided to research for just the right microwave/convection oven combination so we don't need a toaster oven in the remodeled kitchen.
So, I can't heat water. I could go scrambling around in boxes and try to find the crock pot, I suppose, because that could be a makeshift water boiler. But. I don't know where it might be, because I didn't pack it and the (as a telemarketer referred to him the other day) "manhood of the house" (stop laughing, I couldn't make that shit up if I tried) is out of town till Tuesday night.
Me and the kid are eating out every meal! Go us.
On a more compassionate and unexpected note, our contractor and his wife invited us over to dinner one night while our kitchen is out of commission. That's so sweet.
And now I will try to get into the holiday spirit. I have lots of cards to write. Last call: if you want one from me (or one of my characters) and haven't let me know, go here and leave a post; comments are screened.
When cards are done, I'll do the promised drabbles.
