That was ONE HELL OF A CONCERT! 4 hours' worth...

I know I should have been good and written down what songs in what order, but sue me, I didn't. I just watched it and had fun, and got my million dollars' worth. Note: did not buy any of the $35 t-shirts or the $100 posters or any souvenirs. Really. They got enough of my money just with the tickets; the rest was just too much money and too much crowd. Do I need a "Sex and Music" t-shirt? Yeah, but not for $40.

So the short version (I might expand on it tomorrow if I feel like it, but I do have to work and have sushi with [livejournal.com profile] cedricsmistress afterward): Sting's guitarist Dominick Miller (sp?) opened with a 15-minute acoustic set, and the last one was Shape of My Heart. Sting joined him for that - nice surprise.

Annie Lennox was unbelievable: she moves like a swan and has a voice that could stop a truck in the middle of the highway. She's amazing and gracious and beautiful and I love all the songs she did, from Here Comes the Rain Again all the way to Pavement Cracks with a little Bob Marley thrown in just for good measure. And an encore. I don't think that my favorite diva qualifies as your typical opening act. I'd have paid that much just to see her.

Seeing as how it's the Sacred Love tour, Sting did a few songs from that CD. But mostly it was a mix, and damn if he didn't sing Seven Days - I love that song for its quirkiness and odd meter and the story it tells. I actually think I got to hear most of my most loved Sting songs tonight. Fields of Gold. Desert Rose. If I Ever Lose My Faith. Englishman in New York. Sacred Love. Fragile. Every Little Thing She Does. and on and on, with the obligatory Roxanne and Every Breath You Take. There were a lot of projections onto screens behind and above, and how poignant was it to show oil rig equipment during Fragile? And of course Sting is as amazing as ever, and his band was awesome, and he and Annie did a number together, and it was all good. He's not as bouncy as when I saw the Police, but damn, is he good.

It was an older concert crowd. That was kind of interesting. And loud, so very loud. Very very loud. I used to mix for live concerts. I don't think I ever made it quite as loud (in comparison, given the room size and sound system) as it was tonight. Hannah lasted for most of it, but four hours is a long time to ask a 9-year-old to sit quietly and listen to live music. She passed out hard in the car on the way home and we carried her in and tucked her into bed and she's in dreamland.

Which is where I should be, so... if you want more details let me know and I'll try to remember all the songs for both of them. Or as close as I can.
