Congratulations, Boston Red Sox for guaranteeing yourselves a playoff berth.
Did you know that the only poem I've ever written that got published anywhere since high school is a poem about the beauty and grace and lull of baseball? I don't know if I still have a copy of it somewhere - I probably do.
Maybe maybe maybe.
Red Sox fans are a special (if beleaguered) breed. So many hopes dashed. My favorite thing about living in Boston all those years was Fenway Park. I'd go when it was nice out or when it was nasty out; i'd go at night when I felt lousy or when I felt good; I'd take the train in from the North Shore on a moment's notice. I could navigate my way over the Mass Pike to Kenmore Square with my eyes blindfolded and my hands tied, just by the smells and sounds.
Later I had a share in season tickets behind home plate, 16 games a season. I hated giving those up when I moved... that was a real wrench. And I always said the only way I'd move back to Boston was if I had a job working for the Red Sox.
In other news, I wrote something I really like today. GO ME.
