Here's the quick tour:

Thursday. Left late, got to the airport (I love online check-in & printing my boarding pass at home!), flew overnight to Atlanta which didn't take as long as I thought. Three hours and change. So much for my idea of sleeping all night! Then there was a 3-hour layover in Atlanta (too early for Starbucks!), and I did sleep on the plane between Atlanta and Ft Lauderdale. Think Spike at the beginning of Waltz for Venus and you've got a good picture of me. No sir, no one's gonna wake me or disturb my sleep.

[livejournal.com profile] sff_corgi met me as promised, we went and picked up D'Argo, and set off for Key West. It was nice and warm and sunny! I was so happy to see her, because I ♥ my girlfriend! Yeah, we got groceries first, and I met her mom, and we left. It's a long drive, about 4 hours, and I'd only ever been as far as Marathon before but I recognised everything between Homestead & there. Past Marathon was new territory.

We listened to the CD that [livejournal.com profile] carlythemeek made for me to many smiles.

Key West was different than I'd imagined. A lot bigger for one, but it was cool. A lot of drunken college students, and I found out that from my treo I can only post about a two-line LJ entry, blast it. I had some great stuff there, but it cut off after a sentence and a half. Hmm. [glares at the Blazer browser app]

We wandered, went to dog-friendly places with D'Argo who is the best, most well-behaved boxer I've ever met, and garnered much praise for his beauty. I like the stores that allowed the dog, and the restaurants that brought water bowls for him. A nice place to be with pooches! If I lived there (perish the thought, it's not really my kind of town--too crowded, even though the weather was right), I'd have dogs. There are also lots and lots of cats all over the place. We didn't go to Hemingway's house but we saw plenty of cats regardless, and it reminded me of his saying: One cat leads to another. He was so right.

At one point I wrote in my LJ 'Greetings from Key West. Glad you're all not here, or it would be too crowded in this room.' We stayed at a neat place, an efficiency apartment with full kitchen, sitting room, and bedroom, a private deck and a back yard and a pool. As of July 1 it won't be available, because the owner is reclaiming it for a personal residence. I don't blame him or her one bit. It was so nice. The night sky was beautiful from the deck.

We stayed in Key West for 2 nights and days on either side, then drove back up to Miami. We went to dinner with [livejournal.com profile] sff_corgi's mam, then went to see Hellboy, which was fun. It wasn't great but it was good in that 'I really appreciate comic books' kind of way. Besides, Ron Perlman in latex, what's the problem? :) I got to see the golf course where large chunks of Canis Mutatem take place (!!!) and we got to see some lovely stars, but not as many as we saw down in Key West.

On Monday we had the distinct pleasure of lunching in South Beach with [livejournal.com profile] heidi8 and got to hear all about her experience waiting in line overnight. Then we wandered a bit more, I got the tour of Miami, SoBe, Hotel Row, and we followed the coast up to Fort Lauderdale, took the long way around, and went back to the airport.

Then I flew home through Dallas, and luckily for me my connecting flight gate was right next door to the arrival gate... 'cause that's a big friggin' airport. The only flight that wasn't packed full was the one from DFW to Portland, which was good because I had 2 seats all to myself.

Sigh. I need to live closer to the people I love! No, scratch that. They need to live closer to me. I love the Northwest, even though it's cold and wet here today (temps just barely teasing 50F). Big contrast from South Florida. Got in sometime after 11 pm, took the shuttle bus to the car, and drove home. Got to bed by 1, and up at 7 to take Miss H back to school.

And that, in a nutshell, is the trip report. I left out the bits about clients calling for appointments and other work calls and the more mundane stuff. I had a blast with C and I already miss her.

I was in such a hurry last week to get packed and get going, I can't believe I forgot this!

Thank you, [livejournal.com profile] themorningstarr for inviting me to be the first author on the new Unredeemed. I am so honored, and I promise to get the rest of the story posted tonight.
