...I've decided that no private space on the web is private any more.

I'm all for people friendslocking their LJs, if that's what it takes to express opinions without opening ourselves up to random flame wars.

Fortunately for me, precious few people out there give a rat's ass what I think about things. I'm sure some of my fics have offended people, but there's no way I can please everyone. Nor do I want to. I'm sure some of the statements I've made have offended people.

I'm not on very many e-groups any more, because I found that if people could find a way to twist my words, take them personally, and attack me for my opinions, they would.

I don't have room for that in my life. I try very hard to be a good person and keep a good outlook on things and be fair and honest. But I'm also pretty much cut-and-dried, and if something leaves a bitter taste, I'll simply remove it from my life. I don't want to have to do that with LJ.

I also want to protect my friends and loved ones. I can get aggressive when they're attacked and harmed, and will defend them with everything I've got. Just so you know.

In the midst of all the cachu floating around my friendslist circle lately - the talk about fandom censorship and squickfics and right and wrong and self-righteousness and who should be blacklisted and that garbage - I managed to read the book Coraline by Neil Gaiman. It's a YA book for ages 8 and up.

If any of you have read this, what are your thoughts on it? Here are mine. )
