We got a new trumpet honeysuckle and planted it last week and there are hummingbirds everywhere now. It's so nice to hear them buzz and click, and then I realise just how territorial they are and it makes me laugh. They're always fighting over the prime position on the feeder, or at the new honeysuckle (I guess our standard honeysuckle pales in comparison). The other morning I had a red bowl out by the kitchen door filled with cat food, and it attracted one of the hummers. Then the little bird came and buzzed the screen window and my cat Jasmine was on the other side on a red pad; Jazz looked at the tiny intruder with complete boredom.

Raccoons and/or skunks have since stolen the red bowl.

I haven't worked on a Saturday in a while. It wasn't bad. There are some new QUIET regulations in effect so the noise from downstairs doesn't bother me when I'm doing massages, which is a good thing. I still like doing it when it's nice and amenable. I didn't like doing it when there was too much tension. I could shut out the tension when I was actually giving a massage, but not on either side of it.

I now have a t-shirt very much like my LJ icon. Go me! It's very lovely and the quality of the transfer looks pretty good. I have to say, the non-clothing items I ordered are just gorgeous. Thanks again and much appreciation to [livejournal.com profile] waccawheels, [livejournal.com profile] hellcatjelybean, and of course the fabulously creative [livejournal.com profile] sff_corgi.

Raccoons were probably the bowl thieves. They are notorious kleptos, having been known to steal books left outside among other things. Raccoons are smart, that is why there are so many of them!

And hummingbirds! Squee! I need to put up a hummer feeder. My mom has one and the chickadees like it more than the hummers do. Her chickadees (these are chestnut-backed) are addicted to the sugar-water fix.

These are mostly Rufous Hummingbirds. They're very aggressive and territorial. I had to move their feeder because it was too close to a camellia and the ants were getting in. Ugh. The hummingbirds are such a pleasure to watch and I love it when they flit by. Sometimes they hover just in front of me when I'm changing the nectar in their feeder, and once one of them was so devil-may-care that he landed on the feeder while I was still carrying it.

I'm sure it was the raccoons who stole not just that bowl but several others. Usually I can find them, though. These are just... gone, and I'm not keen to look under the front steps because I think the skunk family lives there and I don't want a faceful. I've switched to a disposable bowl so even if they steal this one and I can't find it, it will turn into mulch eventually.
