Girl's Week

Just me and my daughter for the week. It should be fun; she's at such a great age. Very fun to be with, a lot less confrontational than she has been.

Her 9th birthday is coming up in less than a month and she wants a Harry Potter costume party. Ideas are greatly appreciated. I can't see a bunch of nine-year-olds wanting to practice their spellwork on me... and keep in mind I'm not particularly handy at sewing or anything like that.

Speaking of Harry Potter, I need to find out when ticket presales for POA happen. I have the feeling that's going to be one big party day... right, [livejournal.com profile] deborahlive and [livejournal.com profile] cedricsmistress and, hopefully, [livejournal.com profile] sff_corgi? Anyone else want to trek over with me to grumble over casting choices and hairless werewolves and the Hogwarts Choir? I have to warn you, I will be watching it as [livejournal.com profile] sosirius; I know I won't be able to avoid that.

MPD, anyone?

Oh, and I can't find my Vitaminless CD! It's just... gone. That's a bummer.

erm...ebay? daughters'friends'mothers? I know theres acomunit ycalled ,lj user="hp_costumes"> hope that helps.
and what is MPD? I liek yoru sirius rp character and i'd like apoa review from him. lol. don't know where I'll watch it.
and another question: what does the "ci da" mean in yoru comments link? I've seen more (welsh? gaelic/) phrases her and over there and I'm just wondering.

Thanks. I'll let the kidlets bring their own costumes. I've got one Narcissa Malfoy and one Sirius Black costume at the ready, though. For myself.

MPD = multiple personality disorder. :)

ci da = 'good dog' in Welsh.

In our roleplay, Sirius went to see Return of the King with his sweetheart and saw the 'Have You Seen This Man' promo piece of Gary-Oldman-as-Sirius in the theatre. He turned to his beloved and said... 'That looks nothing like me!'

I'll be happy to have [livejournal.com profile] sosirius review POA. What a great idea.

I'l lNEVER understadn how to pronoucneanything welsh. I'm trying m ybest btit's somehting to jsut get agrip on. are you studyig nit or arey ou jsut usign some random phasesy o ulok up when you need them.

We lovesssss the motorbike, precioussssssssss.

Can I read your fic?

So far as Welsh goes... well, let me see, where do I start? Start with my first name, which is Welsh, and no one can seem to pronounce it correctly, so of course being the snarky femme that I am, I had to learn to swear at them politely in Welsh just so they'd be a little more confused.

Then we skip to here: Every five or six years I decide it's time to teach myself a new language. I am pretty much fascinated by them, so... I studied Spanish for 7 years in school, then I studied Swedish, then I took a break for a while, went back to Spanish, then taught myself enough conversational Lakota to do in-jokes with my friends from the Pine Ridge Reservation, and now it's Welsh. Usually a new language coincides with a main character I'm trying to write.

It's my belief that some of the best insights into any culture come from its native language and idiomatic... stuff. Native-language jokes and slang are such a great way to get a feel for the true nature of that culture. For me. And if I have a character who's, say, Lakota Sioux, he's going to have to know that stuff.

[And as an aside to all the Native writers out there: I'm not a wannabe, I don't want to steal anything, I just want to write the characters I want to write. I've already been through this whole wanky argument with some of the best NDN writers out there for years and years and I won't go through it again. I think I can write who I want, and you can laugh at my writing if you so desire just like I can laugh at how you write white people. ]

So sue me, I like to be thorough and I like to research and I like to learn, but I like to do it all at my own pace. I'm my own version of rebel to the core that way. Tell me what to do and I'll leap to do the opposite. Tell me I can't learn something, and I'll learn it until I can converse with the best on it.

What's the right term for someone like me?

Oh, yeah.

Insane. :) But in a good way. Driven.

Wowee! that was a whole entry of itself! ;)
Heh, I love languages liek that too. I mostly pick up stuff for as far as I can pick up. I shoudl get myself together and really study some of them forreal.

OH but odn'teven start about me. I'm constantly forgetting yhoru from the US at all. I keep thinking you're british. (tssss!)

Rather an excellent decoy I've got going, wouldn't you say?

Cup of tea?

[identity profile] sunny-daylee.livejournal.com 2004-04-26 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
NO! Not your Vitaminless CD!

[identity profile] in-the-blue.livejournal.com 2004-04-26 04:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm glad someone appreciates the gravity of the situation.

[looks from side to side] Any chance it's here somewhere?

[identity profile] in-the-blue.livejournal.com 2004-04-27 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
No, I was looking for it before I came there so we could listen to it on the long drive.

Drat. Hope it turns up somewhere... eventually... and didn't get thrown out as an annoyance. [evil glare]

[livejournal.com profile] myfanwy did that party for Kevin... you should call her and discuss, since her Internet's being cranky. [/nudge]

I remember hearing all about that last year. She made costumes! I think I can make Fizzing Whizzbee punch and we can play Pin the Nose on Snape or Whomping Willow Tag and stuff like that. I can make my own Skiving Snackboxes for her guests. Think of the possibilities. I might invite [livejournal.com profile] sosirius to lead an activity. All right, ladies and gentlemen, we're going to play 'Escape from Azkaban.' Here are the rules... first, no Dementors allowed...
