Whatever happens happens

In this episode of Life Imitates Cowboy Bebop, I can report to you that the racoons (Faye) stole all the holiday treats except the suet pinecone from the tree sometime in the night.

Oh well. Easy come, easy go. At least someone got to eat the stuff.

In other news, it's 54 degrees out today as opposed to last week at this time when it was 13 degrees. I don't even mind the rain that goes with the warmer temperatures but people please, please, if you're going to become mountain climbers, don't take Mount Hood lightly. It's one of the most popular climbs in the U.S.: it's accessible, rated fairly doable for those with only moderate experience, and every year or so climbers lose their lives to the mountain. I don't know if you've been following the story of the three climbers who went up last Friday (after 48 hours the chance of survival out there drops to 1%) and never returned. They found the body of one on Saturday and have called off the search for the other two because of weather conditions and high avalanche risk.

I have such mixed feelings about mountain climbing as a sport. I love hiking, and I love hiking on and around Mount Hood. It's beautiful. It's liberating. It's fantastic. I'm blessed to live in such a gorgeous part of the country. I can understand the allure of wanting to get to the summit; you can see clear to the Pacific Ocean from there. But like so many things, it's a hazardous journey and I'm so sorry for those whose lives are claimed by it. Just.... ugh. I guess I'm not that kind of a risk-taker.

In complete contrast, I've been watching Baccano! which is really illegal amounts of fun so far. The series is not for everyone, I think, but I don't want to make any judgments on it until I see all of it.

I'm not usually one to complain loudly about things outside my control, but I'm ready for this year to be over.

Hugs and good thoughts to those that need them.

Oh Baccano! There are a ton of people I want to recommend it to, and then I am like "but . . . I can't, because I know this level of gore would make you really unhappy. D: I'm sorry! You would appreciate much of the rest!"

How far are you?

Halfway through the 3rd disc. I'm about to watch more!

Ahahaha, so you have hit Claire Stanfield already.

I'm suspecting it's probably wiser not to go around hitting Claire Stanfield, but yes.

*hugs* People underestimate Nature a lot. I think technology makes us cocky.

(...which is to say I've been thrilled to watch Baccano with you. ♥)

It's been a blast, literally.

I'm not sure if it's technology, or even if it's cockiness coming into play. I understand the need to strive and to conquer and to dominate, but there's a certain amount of reckless disregard, I guess, that goes into it from an observer's point of view. I'm sure from the perspective of the person doing the challenge, it's a whole different story and I can't speak to that because I choose not to go mountain climbing. I've known lots of people who do, and who love it, and who say there's nothing like it in the world. I just wish they could all stay safe.

*nods* yeah. Yeah, staying safe would be a great thing.

Also, my inner Faye was not amused by your post's introduction.

But I was.

I'm going to be pretty ready to say goodbye to 2009 myself, not that it's been... well, all misery. Today, for example, has been one of those days that (despite spending more than I wanted to at the grocery store) I've been so happy to be living in our townhouse. Took Mike to work, brought in the groceries and then the trash can, put the trash can out on the deck, admired our Christmas tree, and then sat down to get online for my Gwynne time.

It's been a good day so far. ♥
