Just like that.

[livejournal.com profile] heidi8, I wrote this with you in mind.

There's a silly thing at the Sugar Quill to come up with "The Absolute Worst Possible Ending for Book 7" and I couldn't resist this little snippet. I thought of you as I wrote it:

Without an inch of space between them, Hermione couldn't resist fingering the almost velvety blackness of the suit Draco wore. "That used to belong to... to... to You-Know-Who," she quavered. "It fits you like a glove."

"Well. Why waste a perfectly good designer suit, Granger? Just because we vanquished him doesn't mean we need to vanquish his wardrobe." Smugly, Draco held her just that much closer, if such a thing was possible.

She sighed an oh, Draco! happily. Out of everyone, Draco had been the bravest, most noble, most selfless wizard of his time. "I love you, you naughty little Slytherin."

"Nothing," Draco said coyly, "says I love you like Armani."

Some of the other ones over there are actually pretty funny. Some... are not. But I had a good time doing it, so... I guess that's all that matters. I can only write HP stuff for fun any more anyway.

[identity profile] sff-corgi.livejournal.com 2007-07-14 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure - isn't that kinda what it's supposed to be anyway, fun? Even when it's serious fun?

[identity profile] in-the-blue.livejournal.com 2007-07-14 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Supposed to be, yeah. The problem is when the self-professed BNFs start taking themselves way too seriously. I mean, fanfic is great, we both know that, but it can only take a writer so far. The problem is that it gets pretty easy to become a big fish in a small pond in some fandoms, so people get swelled heads about it.

And then it's not fun any more. Then it's a job, mucking through all that. But I'm not telling you anything you don't already know.

Nope, but occasionally you like to take out the linens and give them a good shake. :) Small-pond Syndrome's been around for aeons now, and I suspect the further back you look, past fandom, the more you'll find it. Fandom's a concentrated microcosm of human behaviour.

It still amuses me how the line between fandom and prodom has blurred, though. One of the Trek novels written before that stupid git at Paramount changed the rules was by Barbara Hambly, one of my favourite fantasy/mystery/historical authors - and it was, honestly, professionally-written crossover fanfic. There's even a cameo by The Doctor.

Now it's extending to fanFILM. Tim Russ, from ST: Voyager is working on a high-end Tuvok fanfilm. The fact that it includes some of the original cast from the TV show is bogglesome. Is this a fanfilm? Is it canon? (Is it utterly COOL that he wanted to do it at all?)

Hehehehe.

I also had one about Harry and Hermione going off into a setting where the evening sky was the color of a thousand flaming sunsets, eating pumpkin pie, on their My Little Pony, Harmonium. But I didn't post that one.

I suppose I have one or two scruples left.

AHAHAHAHAHAH!

That is... wonderful.

Tom just hopes Voldie's suits are not as nicely tailored as his. That would be an evil turn, for sure.

*icon love!*

Narcissa hereby renounces Lucius and leaves with the guy in Armani.

Thing is, Ralph drapes really well with his build. Combine that with Armani... yow.
