I meant to write here yesterday but I didn't. So I'll catch up today. Do you know how much fun it is to take three angry kittens to the vet first thing in the morning? Well, if you don't, here's a hint: not so fucking much. One of them pooped in the carrier on the way there out of fear and that smelled lovely. I learned that at the vet's office they call that a "code brown," which amuses me entirely. On the up side, all three kittens are "perfect" and healthy and happy. Will Turner goes in to be snipped next week, living up to Captain Jack's biggest fantasy, and I'll make the appointment for the girls at that time. I figured if he was taken care of before they went into heat, we'd be a much happier household, and I think we're safe seeing as how they're just 5+ months old. On the down side, they're supposed to give us an exam fee discount for multiple cats but they didn't do that, so now I have to call them and say hey, what the hell?
I'm thrilled as punch (does punch get thrilled? Who knows?) to seeindy_go around again, even if it's only for moments here and there. It's a scary big bad world out there but thankfully, she's recovering nicely and doing better.
I just looked down and realized I was multitasking: writing this in the middle of an email I forgot I'd started. I do this routinely... have about a million things going on at once. It's that Gemini ascendant, I just know it. I was talking astrology withkelleypen the other day and I realized how hard it is to diagnose sun signs and moon signs and ascendants without knowing a person. Yup, that's just the way it is. I'm no astrologer who can walk up to someone and say aha! you're clearly a Pisces with Aries rising and moon in Virgo! (Severe apologies to whomever I just created there; that's a hellacious combination.) i still think astrology, whether or not you're a skeptic about it, is an incredibly useful tool. I like to figure out my characters' sun and rising signs, at the very least, because it helps me tremendously with their characterizations, both in fic writing and in roleplay. I could blather on a lot about this and tell you things like yes, we know canonically that Spike is a Gemini by Martian astrology, but clearly he has heavy, heavy water influencing that inner air but then you'd all be bored to pieces, or at least most of you would. I also have strong defense of Sirius as Scorpio with fire influence. Dull, I know, so I'll stop now before I talk about the rest of my characters. Again, a useful tool. I'm still a big Linda Goodman fan. I love what she has to say in her Sun Signs book, even though it's a little bit dated. Look beyond her 60s notion of women-only-wanting-to-snag-a-man and read the descriptions beneath; they're priceless. (For the record, she was a triple Aries: Aries sun, Aries moon, Aries ascendant.)
I'm also thrilled about some stuff I'm writing. The big will she finish the book? question comes up in my mind a lot, and the answer is yes, she will. I'm awfully excited about that and about some other things I'm working on. I realize I have the luxury of not having to write to a schedule, and that's a bit of a relief and it also enables my own inner laziness but writing for me is a very personal thing. You won't see me giving hints on process or telling you there's only one true way to force yourself to write, none of that shit. I do it when and how I do it, and that's what works for me. (Note to self: next week will be good for writing, sit down and do it 9-5 every day, ha ha.)
Booked flights to the Other Coast for Thanksgiving, and... that's about it. I get to have my hair cut this morning. I'm all about that. It's too... soccer-mom. I need some funky fun back in my haircut. And, not related at all, for the first time since my surgery last December I don't hate my body. Go figure.
