Alphabet! Alphabet! wherefore art thou, alphabet?
A while ago, I sleazed on into
mme_publisher's journal for a letter and she gave me G. I've never been big on following rules, so if this doesn't fit the format (ten words, sentences about the word), too bad. I've been avoiding this for days but here it is.
----START MEME----
1. G. Just G. It's the first letter of my name and it's become an online handle or nickname for me of sorts. I can tell you right here and now that my first name is one with which I've never resonated. I pick it up and look at it sometimes and think, what the hell, does anyone feel they were named right? I had a whole host of other names I'd have preferred when I was little. I suppose one can always change their name but this leads me to a greater question: perhaps the whole identity-tied-up-with-name thing makes it easier to try on new ones through roleplay.
2. Go Away. This is how I feel 9 out of 10 times when the phone rings or when someone unbidden pings me online, or when I get an email from someone I haven't heard from in FOREVER and it's 10 pages of forwarded addresses from people on AOL and at the end it's some joke or cute story I've heard at least once a month for the past five years.
3. Good Writing. Because I'm not antisocial all the time, I would like to thank my good writing buddies, notably the ones who make my heart sing in strange ways over stranger circumstances. I don't hate to name names but if you're not here, don't feel left out. I can't include everyone. Just my two steadiest writing sweethearts:
lostinapapercup,
sff_corgi.
4. Girl on Girl. Ha! Got you! It's the title of one of the graphic novel compendiums of the comic book series Y: The Last Man (from DC/Vertigo, pimp pimp). But it's also a concept that makes me wonder about the HP fandom: there is so much male/male slash out there amongst Potterites but very little in the way of girl on girl. What a sorry and one-sided lot you are. This could so easily lead me to a discussion on appropriate (ab)use of someone else's characters, but that can be a different discussion for a different day.
5. Great Expectations. Something I never have for Mother's Day. Mine are simple: sleep late, don't harrass me, make me breakfast. Then, the day just becomes itself and whatever happens happens. Like... today? My mother-in-law lives 15 minutes away. She probably gets seniority on the whole Mother's Day thing.
6. Generosity of Spirit. Most of you know me but don't know me. It's a strange world out here online and it's so easy to put forth just those pieces of ourselves that we want people to see. The portrait you see of me probably isn't very close to what I'm like in real life. I've always thought that if, when I finally die, they can honestly put "Generous of Spirit" on my tombstone, I'll be satisfied. I'm actually a hugely generous and big-hearted person. I get the greatest pleasure out of doing for others rather than myself, and I don't demand a lot in return. But shhh, don't tell. We don't want to let too many people look into my magic mirror.
7. Gratuitous Icon Posts. Honeys. Lambkins. My icons match the mood of my LJ post as best they can. I think it was C, aka
sff_corgi (who by the way is the one who begifted me with G as an online nickname) who asked one time if I used icons in LJ posts to match my mood or to match the text of my post. After ten seconds of great consideration, I can say that I use them to match both. I match my mood to my post and my post to my icon, in any order whatsoever. In roleplay, I sometimes craft a post around my oh-so-gratuitous icon because a picture of Spike is almost always worth a thousand words.
8. Grandiose Dreams. Don't we all have them? Like... what if I actually remembered to buy a lottery ticket and it was a winning one, what would I do? Besides set aside half of it for Hannah's college tuition, set up a business of some sort and make all of you who are poor and starving my top employees and pay hefty salaries, and travel and see the world, and visit all of you and quit my job and make Mitch quit his job and sit on my butt and eat bon-bons but not really, because I'm not like that. The bon-bon part anyhow. I'd... save the world. Or something. Some small corner of it.
9. Guess What? I'm all out of ideas. The rules said ten, but I warned you right up front that I've never been big on following rules. Besides, I just told my husband that it's Mother's Day and he has to make me breakfast, that's my only requirement. He's being very obliging because he knows he forgot everything else about the holiday. So remember what I said in #6 up there (and numerologically speaking I am a 6)? I didn't exactly lie. My generous moments apparently come and go.
10. Go Go Cactus Man. See? I lied in #9. That wasn't the end after all! Score one for Evil G(enius). Actually, this has a point. I just got Cowboy Bebop Remix 5 this week, and already watched the extra (Session #0, how fun was that?) and Wild Horses and Pierrot le Fou. Two left: Boogie Woogie Feng Shui and Cowboy Funk. Cowboy Funk was one of my first favorite Bebop episodes ever. Apparently, I'm easily excitable, but Spike versus Andy is just classic.
----END MEME----
Happy Mother's Day all of you. If you're not one, you have one. Have a great day.

yeha. one-sided. and ltos of one-track minds adn fadlvoersand crakc readersandwriters and everything seem to alwasy come back to sex sex sex (or sexuality). don't knwowhat madey oulink itto use/abuse of characters but it reminds me of myself readigna meta on idon't knwowhat, aquestio nabout dumbledore and my comment ends in a rant about marauder bashing.
I like your name. if you'd rather have yvonne yocuan copy it form me. (i almsot said exchagne but I liek my own name too.) and i'm too lazy to philosophise about what names say about people and this stufi half-heard/reda aboutthe power of names adn the way rowlignapparentl ygoes the dickens way (althoug hI haven't read any dickens) adn gives very ironicnamesto characters.
9it's one of those days where I" min the mood to write a whoel lot but don't knowwhat about.) SO I do long coment rambles full of stuff in brackets instead.
I have two icosn because ifinaly wanteda user pic to go with my posts but I keep ignorign to get somethign else fro a change asnd thin kif I had more i'd completel yforget to use them. I also completley forgot that the lj moods have icons too. it's jsut liek It's bene ages sicne I did an official document and had to frmat it wit hbolding and so forth and now that I hardl yhave to di it any more I don't use it at all. Except on m ysites perhasp but not even on fics. Strange.
mther's day? i hada trip to final ysee a something-removed-cousin of nine months old and so i gave her present already.adn my parents are both like 'thisis too mu hlike birthdays.' And im starting tothink there's no need for more than one special day to show extra appreciatio non that day alone.
I hope yo ual lhave agreat-one though.

'Course, then there's that whole cadre who feel like insisting HP is sexist anyway and has a lack of strong female characters. *snort*
But despite some very coherent explanations from a few writers, the fashion of slash still quite escapes me.
