Hooray for me! I finally got my sweetheart (whom some of you know by his beloved nickname -- the International Man of Mystery -- because of all his business travel) to start watching Batllestar Galactica with me. I know it's his kind of show and I've known it from the start, but he was being oddly stubborn... until one day when he was flying back from... oh, somewhere on the east coast and ran into one of his friends from a different company on the plane, and they sat together because it's a small world, and his friend who we'll call Chip because that's his name said "you'll like Battlestar Galactica."

Well, YES. So one night, due to lack of both Patriots and Celtics games, I said hey. Watch the BSG miniseries with me and he said "...okay." Mostly because he was lying down and I had the TV controller and was in complete control. So we watched 2/3 of it before he asked if we could wait and watch the end the next day because horizontal=tired, so cheerfully, I paused on Leoben sweating miserably in that really sad outfit and said "sure, honey!"

Much to my surprise, he asked the next day to watch more, and I laughed out loud at his reaction to the end of the miniseries. Those of you who've seen it might laugh along too, but at the very end, with the big reveal, this was his reaction:

"Bummer."

(I love him.)

So now we've made it to the end of Season One, and when he gets back from this latest travel we can watch more. He's already at the point where he looks with suspicion at anyone new and accuses them of being a Cylon, which amuses me endlessly. And at the end of Kobol's Last Gleaming, he turned to me perfectly straight-faced and said logically (because he's a Capricorn and they are born of logic): "See, that's the problem. You just can't trust a Cylon."

(I love him even more.)

Randomly, he'll turn to me and say how good he thinks the show is, and how well done, and how much he likes the visual FX, and I can only smile mysteriously like a Mysterious Girl* and nod and agree and secretly thank Chip for nudging him in the right direction.

Alllllllll of this leads inevitably to roleplay, like you weren't aware of that. Excuse me, I have a BSG character in my list of characters I play, in case you didn't know! For reasons I can't fully explain and haven't fully parsed yet, Starbuck and I -- I mean, Starbuck and Sam -- no, wait, I mean, [livejournal.com profile] lostinapapercup and I (there, that's better) -- decided to try out our two from their first canon meeting, but we ended up doing this whole fill-in-the-blanks behind-the-scenes thing that ended up covering both Resistance and The Farm, with help from backstory seen in The Plan. I got lost along the way, like... I fell into characterization and couldn't get out. Almost everything else went completely to pot (not literally, although at times I wished, haha) for the duration, except for my forays into Sawyer who's nothing like Sam.

So yeah, that was fun, and I'm so very excited for my sweetheart to get back and watch more with me. Soon we'll be caught up to what we just covered in RP and I'll be curious about his reaction to those two episodes. So far, he gives the series two thumbs way up.

I knew he was smart. That's one reason I married him.

*Bonus points if you get the reference! Even more bonus points if you get it and you're not [livejournal.com profile] alienchrist!!!
