First things first:

Happy birthday, [livejournal.com profile] severus___snape!!!

I hope you're having a fantastic day, sir, with limited hibachi shrimp incidents this time around. Here's to a great year for you and yours.

In other news, I woke up early this morning to the -- you guessed it -- chirping of a going-defunct smoke alarm. My first thought was not again, I'm not getting out of bed to replace those batteries, no way, not this time, someone else can do it. My second thought was why the hell do the batteries always die in the wee hours of the morning? Don't they have the decency to understand that this is a holiday? But then the chirping stopped and my dear husband pointed out that the power had gone out.

Woohoo! We're having a grand wind storm! After an hour or so had passed I called the highly effective Portland General Electric for an update on their automated power outage line. That told me that they were aware of the problem; 2931 customers were affected; 400+ people had called to report the problem; they had a crew dispatched; the cause of the outage was TBD; estimated time of power restoration would be 9:30 a.m. Cool! Before I had to go to work! That was going to be good timing.

At 9:40 they'd re-estimated the time of restoration to 11:30 a.m. So I hurried up and went to work because if there was no power there, I was going to have to cancel all my massages. On the way, saw the PGE trucks at the side of the road eradicating a tree that had fallen across the lines (we had wind gusts of over 60mph this morning), wondered if there would in fact be power at work. there was, so I got the place warmed up and ready and did my thing, and now I'm home and the power is back on and the wind has died down quite a bit and all the cats are in and safe, and Hannah's done with her homework and that, my friends, is my Monday so far.

Just one more piece of news: my massage office has a ghost. It's a ghost of a cat. It's been MIA for the past couple years, but last week I saw it again and it's been hanging around my massage space. I love having a ghost in my workspace! And it's the cleanest cat ever. How about that?

And you thought baseball was over for the season.

Dustin Pedroia makes AL Rookie of the Year, and it's well-deserved.

It's always great being a Red Sox fan, but this year's been extra sweet.
