Today, Hannah and I went on a safari in the yard. We both brought binoculars and the rules were as follows: she was Indiana Jones and I was some unnamed associate. Everything was the size it looked through binoculars: Jack was not a kitty but a young gray sleek panther; the boxelder bugs were giant daytime bats; bumblebees were striped birds and chickadees were hawks and hawks were eagles or condors, and the raccoons were rare juvenile stripe-tailed pumas, and the fruit from the madrona trees were grapes of the Gods.

Paging Doctor Jones, did you hear the sound of that Great Blue Tri-Heron?!

It was so sweet.

Everyone, I will catch up on my friends list tomorrow. Today was insane. I started volunteering in Hannah's classroom and it was a half-day, which meant why bother coming home if I only had to turn around again and go back out. So instead I got new shoes (it's fun, isn't it, [livejournal.com profile] hellcatjelybean) and new jeans but they're being hemmed because I'm not like 6'11 (5'6 actually) or something and I don't want them dragging on the ground behind me, and did other errands too but the shopping was the fun part.

I'm not much of a shopper. But every year or so I like to buy new boots. Strangely enough, it often coincides with Halloween and costume planning (*coughcoughcough*). Wonder why that could be... well, it is my favorite time of year.

Mitch is in Salt Lake City this week. He's supposed to be back Thursday morning just in time for the Sting/Annie Lennox concert. But he told me tonight he probaby has to travel again next week. I reminded him that we need him, too. I'm not real happy about this sudden spate of weekly travel. My older sister is coming to visit next week, and I have a lot of work scheduled for the weekend so he needs to be here. Grrr.

Note to self: take down signs about missing kitty. Got another call from someone who thought they might have seen our cat. I was happy to be able to tell her that we have him back, and she was delighted to hear it. People have been so nice; I know I'm surrounded by pet-lovers. That makes me happy.

In fact, the hardest part about [livejournal.com profile] not_that_spike is that he doesn't like animals. It's so not me.

Good night, everybody. Tomorrow will be quieter, unless Mount St. Helens erupts. It's far enough away so that I'll be able to see it but I won't have a lot to worry about. Now if it were Mount Hood... let's not even go there.
