Random, lots of thoughts on parenting
Mar. 24th, 2004 10:07 amIt's spring break week. People are coming and going and taking time off. What am I doing?
Working.
But Thursday, Friday, and Saturday we're taking a trip, all of us, to the coast. It's prime whale-watching season; we should be able to see the grey whales on their migratory path up toward Alaskan waters. It's such a beautiful sight. And we're staying in a pair of hotels we've never tried before, both right on the beach. Hopefully we get rooms with an ocean view instead of a parking lot view.
I tell you, though: I really need a break. I'm off to get ready for work, but today's the day I book tickets to see
sff_corgi in April, and I'm really looking forward to that one. I need some alone-with-friends adult time. I love being Hannah's mom and wouldn't trade that reality for anything, but sometimes I need to be just myself without my daughter in tow. We're together almost all the time and part of that is her age, part of it is all the traveling Mitch has been doing. But I think part of my job as a parent is to take care of myself and my own needs. I don't remember my own mother ever taking time off or doing things on her own with her friends, other than the occasional 'have one over to lunch' thing.

Time to get ready for my day, time to get ready for work. Especially now that my hair feels almost as blonde as The Diva's. Lowlights next time. Changing appearance frequently is one of my specialties; it goes along with the whole multiple personality/method acting/life-is-a-balancing-act thing.
