I liked parts of it. First, it was a hell of a lot better than junior high school. I'd say the first couple years of high school were spent getting over the stigmas of junior high, where things became so segregated and clicque-ish.
What I liked best about high school was meeting new people. And learning that really, the people I'd been in school with since second grade didn't define who I was. They might have looked at me with certain expectations, but I didn't care about that so much any more. I got to expand a little and grow.
I wasn't a complete nerd and I wasn't a jock and I wasn't one of the kids who went off to the woods behind the school to smoke pot every day, I just kind of did my thing and fit everywhere but nowhere. And I learned that was the best, because even if it made me a clicque of one, it was one I got to define.
I also learned that I could be friends with boys. Just friends. Lots of my girlfriends couldn't get to that point where they could look at a guy and not be all stupid and heart-fluttery.
