Proud to Announce...

...that I am the crazy Mom on the block who kept her 8-year-old daughter up till prime time Mars viewing hours last night so we could go look. It was such a beautiful night, perfectly clear. A whole lot of the Milky Way was visible just by looking straight up from our front steps (after the skunks cleared out, that is). Mars was so beautiful! It was all so beautiful. Can I be entirely self-referential without seeming obnoxious and quote my own Sirius by saying that those ancient Greek wizards certainly knew what they were doing when they named the constellations?

I like doing those out-of-the-ordinary things with my daughter. Someone once asked me if I wasn't afraid that people would think I wasn't normal. Ha! Who in their right mind wants to be normal? That's boring. The older I get, the more I like to push the edge of things to see what happens. I mean, if things fall we can still catch them.

Although I wonder if I'll ever finish my Sirius Year 7 fic. Grumble. Then again, school starts next week and I'll have actual days off to myself again. I should set a goal of finishing it before my visitor at the end of September. Dunno if I'll reach it, but it's a good goal.

Oh, yeah: Go away, flu or cold. I don't want you. Beat it. I'm serious.
