Mary Shelley came to mind for a few reasons. First, she was a woman doing things in a man's world when she wrote Frankenstein. She did it on a challenge, you know, and received the information for it from a dream she had. She also did things that men at the time said couldn't be done (a woman writing a compelling horror story).

So since you gave yourself the December writing challenge...
